Pamela Korman, Ph.D
Pamela Korman received a Bachelor of Arts from Sarah Lawrence College (Bronxville, New York) and a Master of Music from Manhattan School of Music (New York). She subsequently earned a Graduate Diploma in Advanced Music Performance Studies and a PhD from Concordia University (Montreal).
Dr. Korman’s thesis entitled, Intention, Creative Variability and Paradox in Recorded Performances of the Piano Music of Maurice Ravel was nominated for the 1997 Governor General’s Gold medal.
Pamela Korman is founder and Director of the Westmount Piano Studio. Since 1999, The Westmount Piano Studio has guided hundreds of students through their discovery of music.
Dr. Korman’s extensive teaching experience as well as research into musical performance has revealed that working with both children and adults requires a tremendous amount of respect for individual learning styles. For her, the thrill of teaching is in helping them discover their own power to achieve something they never thought they could accomplish. She makes a point of ensuring lessons are fun, filled with humour and ease. There is discussion about music, how it is made and how it is performed. There are always connections made between the music and one's own body and experience.
